I created this module for a few simple reasons. I needed a powerful and yet simple module to display photos on quite a few websites (mainly my family sites), I didn't want to be bothered with actually hosting the files, I don't want to provide any tools for managing their photo collection. So, this module was created initially to talk with Picasa and I named it Escher (which happens to also be my youngest nephews name). Later I added the provider layer and wrote a flickr plugin, because all my personal photos are stored in my Flickr Pro account
